Users who pre-ordered the Saga Chapter 2 Web3 smartphone from Solana Mobile could cover the purchase costs by distributing two meme tokens.

In April, cat—themed projects — Cat in a dog's world (MEW) and Maneki (MANEKI) - distributed airdrop to owners of the device, which has not yet been released.

On April 1, the MEW team sent 37,600 tokens to each Web3 smartphone customer. According to CoinGecko, at the maximum price after distribution of $0.0089, the coins were worth about $334.

On April 24, the owners of Saga Chapter 2 received 5199 MANEKI apiece. At peak values of $0.026, it was possible to earn about $135.

In total, users who pre-ordered a smartphone for $450 potentially received about $470 from two meme tokens. However, at the time of writing, the coins have sunk and no longer cover the cost of the device.

When ordering Saga Chapter 2, buyers connected the address of the Solana wallet, which allowed them to receive tokens even before receiving the phone. The owners of the first model also received a similar amount of coins.

Launched in May 2023, the original Saga sold for $999, and in August its cost was reduced to $599.

In early December, Solana founder Anatoly Yakovenko admitted to low smartphone sales. According to him, 2,200 units have been sold since the launch of the product at that time.

However, due to the hype surrounding the BONK meme token airdrop, speculators began to massively buy up the device for resale. Some put it on eBay for $5,000.

Recall that in January 2024, Solana announced the second version of the Web3 smartphone. By mid-February, the number of pre-orders of the new model reached 100,000 units.
