The Arbitrum Foundation has proposed to expand the Orbit network beyond Ethereum

The Arbitrum L2 solution community is considering a proposal for the possibility of deploying blockchains using the Orbit technology stack outside the Ethereum ecosystem.

According to the initiative put forward by the Arbitrum Foundation, a preliminary vote of the DAO participants is taking place — the so-called "temperature check".

The organization noted that the Expansion Program launched in January allows projects to launch customized L2 and L3 chains compatible with EVM that use Ethereum security. In return, the new protocols return 10% of the commission income to the ecosystem. This includes 8% for ArbitrumDAO and 2% for the Developers Guild.

Data: Arbitrum.

"Over the past few weeks, the Arbitrum Foundation has received incoming interest from projects that want to deploy their own Orbit Chain on other networks, including, among others, Bitcoin, Binance Smart Chain, Cosmos and others. We expect the number of such requests to grow over time as this Arbitrum stack gains popularity on Ethereum," the team stated.

The developers announced their readiness to make the necessary changes to the software and talked about some of the consequences of making a decision to expand. In their opinion, this step will increase DAO's revenue, potentially strengthen EVM's dominance and become a competitive advantage for the Ethereum ecosystem.

The preliminary voting will end on July 31. At the time of writing, the proposal has 99.86% support.

Recall that Offchain Labs, the company behind Arbitrum, opened access to the Orbit stack in October 2023.
