Arestovich urged to integrate bitcoin into the economy of Ukraine

Ukrainian politician and ex-adviser to the Office of the President of Ukraine Alexey Arestovich proposed to make the first cryptocurrency a national reserve asset of the country. He wrote about this on his Telegram channel.

The politician called for making digital gold a part of official assets, as well as protecting bitcoin, its holders and transactions with the first cryptocurrency at the legislative level.

According to Arestovich, Ukraine should buy BTC as part of national assets and "integrate the banking system with the bitcoin circulation system."

"Before the implementation of this whole set of measures, it is forbidden to persecute people for working with bitcoin. The spirit of bitcoin is freedom. Freedom is the national idea of Ukraine," the politician said.

He also attached a photo from the annual Bitcoin conference in Nashville, USA.

In March, the Government of Ukraine approved a reform plan within the framework of the Ukraine Facility program, the implementation of which will ensure the receipt of €50 billion from the EU during 2024-2027. The document, among other things, contains provisions on the cryptocurrency market.

In the same month, the IMF postponed to the end of December 2024 the preparation of an updated version of legislation on the regulation of virtual assets in Ukraine. Previously, it was planned to be presented before the end of June. The development of a regulatory document is still assigned to the NBU and the NCBFR.

Recall, according to a Gradus Research survey, 26% of Ukrainians own cryptocurrencies, preferring digital assets instead of precious metals and bonds.
