"I will not disclose names until the investigation is completed, but please beware of any emails suggesting the distribution of cryptocurrencies received within 24 hours," the head of the company warned.

CoinGecko co-founder and chief operating officer Bobby Ong also reported a possible hack of the service. According to him, malicious emails are sent on behalf of crypto firms and contain offers to distribute coins.

PSA: There is an ongoing supply chain email breach attack happening with an email newsletter vendor right now. Several crypto companies may be affected via email blasts of fake token launches. Be careful with email newsletters in the coming days.

"Potentially, we at CoinGecko may be affected, so we are actively working with our supplier to further investigate and determine the extent of the problem. We have seen phishing emails on behalf of CoinGecko sent from other customer accounts," he added.

Ong recalled that the crypto asset tracking service does not intend to launch its own token.

In January, Mailer Lite, an email marketing service provider, was the victim of an attack that caused more than $600,000 in damage. The incident affected Cointelegraph, Wallet Connect, Token Terminal and several DeFi projects.

Recall that in November 2023, users of Trezor hardware cryptocurrencies encountered malicious email newsletters.
