AI in the iPhone: how Siri will improve thanks to Apple Intelligence

On June 10, at the WWDC 2024 presentation in Cupertino, Apple announced the integration of ChatGPT into Siri, iOS, iPadOS and macOS, as well as the imminent launch of a large-scale Apple Intelligence initiative involving the introduction of artificial intelligence into the company's devices.

TechCrunch found out how Siri will change after the update.

ChatGPT integration on iPhone

Siri will be able to connect to ChatGPT to answer certain questions. For example, if you need ideas for cooking with the available ingredients.

To clarify the request, you can send photos. In particular, it is possible to take a picture of a flower growing on the street and ask Siri for information about it.

You will not need to register an account to send ChatGPT requests, but you need to give Siri permission to connect to the chatbot.

Understanding the personal context

Apple Intelligence will allow Siri to understand the user's identity and perform actions specific to him. So, if a recipe was received by text or e-mail to the device a few days ago and it is not possible to find it now, the request "Siri, show the recipe that Alice sent a few days ago" will fix the problem.

Another example: using the assistant, you can quickly find the passport number during flight booking: Siri will extract it from an email or photo and automatically enter it in the appropriate field.

Improved speech comprehension

Apple has improved the understanding of natural speech with stutters. For example, a personal assistant will understand such a request: "Siri, set the alarm for, oh, no, set the timer for 10 minutes. Although no, put it on for five minutes."

Siri understands the context better. You can ask the assistant to specify the place of the family meeting, and then find out the weather there without mentioning the location again.

Text communication

Previously, it was possible to communicate with the personal assistant in the iPhone only by voice. With Apple Intelligence, a typing function will be added in case there is no opportunity or desire to speak. Entering text ensures that the request is clearly understood.

Siri better understands the functions of Apple products

Now Siri is better versed in the chips and features of the devices on which it works. You can ask the assistant how to make a delayed message sending and get step-by-step instructions.

Understanding the content on the screen

Siri understands the information on the screen and can take actions based on the content being viewed. For example, if a user receives an address from a friend, Siri can immediately add it to the contact card.

When offered to watch a TV show on Apple TV+, the assistant can open it immediately.

Actions in applications

Apple Intelligence adds the ability to perform actions in and between applications. For example, you can ask Siri to enhance a photo in the Photos app, and then send it to a specific person in a message.

Recall that Apple postponed the launch of Apple Intelligence in the EU until at least 2025 due to local regulation.

Earlier, the media learned about the company's work on integrating AI tools into the Vision Pro mixed reality headset.
