The Solana team has released an update to address network congestion

Solana developers have updated the software as part of efforts to combat blockchain congestion leading to transaction delays.

The v1.17.31 release is now recommended for general use by MainnetBeta validators. This release contains enhancements which will help alleviate the ongoing congestion on the Solana Network.

"Release v1.17.31 is now recommended for general use by MainnetBeta validators. This release contains improvements that will help reduce the ongoing congestion of the Solana network," the message reads.

Rex St. John from the Anza customer team clarified that this is the "first round" of updates, followed by v1.18.

According to the developers' correspondence, devnet release testing should start on April 15. However, St. John admitted that there is no 100% guarantee of this.

Anza noted that the situational solution to the problem of network congestion caused delays in the implementation of v1.18.

there's zero chance of monday

we haven't even established a release candidate, let alone performed the mandatory testnet downgrade/upgrade compatibility test cycle

we have at least one more release worth of congestion improvements before release candidate viability

About a week ago, the Solana team admitted that the blockchain faced a large number of unsuccessful transactions. The developers attributed this to the boom of meme tokens and a significant increase in DEX trading volumes in the ecosystem.

They announced a number of measures "in the coming days" that will help reduce network congestion.

.@Solana MainnetBeta validators: the v1.17.31 release is now recommended for general use. This patch contains enhancements which will help alleviate some of the ongoing network congestion, and will be followed by further enhancements in v1.18.

Please upgrade when there's less…

"Please update if the overdue stake is less than 5%. Make sure that you have time to monitor your nodes after the upgrade and report any problems to the MB validators at Discord," Anza noted.

Recall that since the beginning of the year, Solana accounted for 49.3% of global investor interest in blockchain ecosystems, CoinGecko calculated.

According to Bernstein's forecast, the network is "leading the battle" for the introduction of on-chain payments. Matty Taylor, co-founder of Colosseum and former head of growth at the Solana Foundation, believes that the network will outpace Ethereum in terms of the number of consumer Web3 applications.
