Paolo Ardoino informed his subscribers on the social network X that the address database belonging to one of the popular providers of analytical information for the crypto market CoinGecko was compromised as a result of a data leak.
"I will not name names until the investigation is completed. Please beware of any emails suggesting the distribution of cryptocurrencies received during the day," Ardoino wrote.
Later, Bobby Ong, co-founder and CEO of the CoinGecko platform, confirmed the fact that a database containing an e-mail newsletter mailing list was compromised by one of the analytical information providers.
"CoinGecko is actively investigating and working with our supplier to determine the extent of the threat. We have seen phishing emails on behalf of our service sent from other customer accounts. There are no plans to distribute CoinGecko tokens. Don't be fooled by phishing emails," Bobby Ong wrote.
Earlier, the team of the Velvet Capital cryptocurrency project reported a phishing attack on the external interface of its website and recommended that users not interact with the Internet page until specialists fix the problem.
