The Ethereum Nocturne Labs Privacy Protocol has ceased operations
The Nocturne Labs project team, once supported by several prominent representatives of the crypto market, including Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, announced the termination of work.

In October 2023, Nocturne Labs raised about $6 million from Bain Capital Crypto and Polychain Capital. The Ethereum Nocturne Labs privacy protocol, which the project was engaged in, will allow private accounts and transactions to be introduced into the Ethereum ecosystem.

However, now the project is closed, according to the announcement, users will be able to withdraw their funds through the Nocturne interface until the end of June. Currently, the total blocked asset value in the Nocturne protocol is $129,645 (TVL), according to DefiLlama figures.

Nocturne Labs declined to comment on the reasons for the closure of the project. One of the reasons for the decision could be the growing wariness of the authorities of many countries around the world regarding any privacy protocols.

In May, Alexey Pertsev, the developer of the Tornado Cash mixing service, was sentenced to five years on charges of creating conditions that allow fraudsters to launder criminal proceeds.
