"W5 is an open wallet standard developed in collaboration with the TON ecosystem to replace the current version of the v4 wallet. Tonkeeper aims to simplify interaction with the blockchain and make TON accessible to all users, regardless of their familiarity with cryptocurrency," the message says.
The key feature of the wallet is gas—free transactions. Transactions are paid in USDT or Notcoin from the user's balance.
"[W5] will provide two—factor authentication, password recovery and gas-free commissions paid in USDT, which will make getting started with TON easy for everyone," Anatoly Makosov, technical head of TON Core, noted in a comment to The Block.
The option will soon appear in TON Space and MyTonWallet.
The introduction of gas-free transactions became known from the TON roadmap for 2024, presented in April. It also included the development of a new Teleport cross-chain technology.
The launch of the latest TON Foundation was announced in mid-July. According to the statement, the TON Teleport BTC solution is designed to involve the owners of the first cryptocurrency in DeFi activity.
Recall that in April, the issuer of the leading USDT stablecoin, Tether, added support for the TON blockchain.
