Media: a foreigner killed in Kiev for the sake of cryptocurrency was kidnapped by the military

A foreign citizen killed in Kiev for the sake of digital assets was kidnapped by the military of the National Guard of Ukraine. This is reported by Strana, citing sources in law enforcement agencies.

According to them, one of the military offered the victim a deal to buy cryptocurrency. Then he allegedly told three colleagues that a foreigner had raped his minor relative and asked for help in his punishment.

The publication noted that the organizer of the crime did not tell the accomplices about the intentions to rob and kill the victim.

"Colleagues helped organize the kidnapping of a man, and the organizer of the crime was already engaged in the massacre of the Moroccan," the media reported.

After the murder, the organizer asked his colleagues to help hide the body, the source added.

At the end of July, it became known that the Kiev police were investigating the kidnapping and murder of a foreign citizen in order to seize his cryptocurrency in the amount of ~ 7 million hryvnia (over $170,000).

According to the case file, four intruders kidnapped a 29-year-old man and forced him to transfer bitcoins to their crypto wallet, after which they strangled him. Then the accomplices changed the license plates, took the body to the forest and buried it, and cashed out the stolen assets.

The investigation found that the crime was carefully prepared and it was the presence of a large amount in bitcoins that became the reason for its implementation. All the defendants were detained, money, a car and other material evidence were seized from them. They face life in prison.

Recall that in April, a court in Phuket (Thailand) sentenced five Russians to prison terms for kidnapping a married couple from Belarus in order to extort 31 million baht (about $845,700) in cryptocurrency.
