This now means we have inscribed 80% of the top 10 largest files on Bitcoin π₯ pic.twitter.com/qm7ffTxtb6
According to OrdinalsBot, the "inscription" contains a copy of the "Declaration of Independence in Cyberspace" from Logos Network.
OrdinalsBot co-founder Brian Laflan told Decrypt that the size is not related to the length of the document. In the form of text, it would take no more than 2 kb. However, the project team posted it as a jpg file with a large enough resolution to read.
"It's tiny, but they added an image and enlarged it to this size β just to take the first place and really make themselves known," the expert explained.
The file exceeded the maximum set in March for bitcoin "inscriptions" by only 0.001 MB.
Laflan noted that the block capacity in the network of the first cryptocurrency was increased from 1 MB to 4 MB in 2017 as a result of the Segregated Witness hard fork. To "write in" something larger in volume is obviously doomed to failure, he added.
"Part of our job is to make sure that we don't do this. In fact, we will create [Ordinal] locally, we will send it to our bitcoin nodes and see if all this goes through. But we won't even start if the size exceeds 4 MB. It doesn't make sense, because we know it's going to fail," Laflan said.
To add such large inscriptions to the bitcoin blockchain as the "Declaration of Independence in Cyberspace" or the previous record volume from Runestone (3,968 MB), the OrdinalsBot team worked with the mining company Marathon Digital.
"They're testing the parameters and fine-tuning because they don't really know how it's going to work. But the transition from the test network to the implementation is a really exciting moment," Laflan said.
Recall that against the background of the launch of the Runes protocol on the day of bitcoin halving, the share of transactions with Ordinals and BRC-20 tokens did not exceed 2% of the total volume.
