China has created an AI commander for military simulations

The AI commander is being tested at the laboratory of the College of Joint Operations of the National Defense University in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province. This is reported by SCMP.

The tests are conducted in computer war games involving all types of troops of the People's Liberation Army of China. The virtual commander is given all the powers, he learns quickly and improves his skills in virtual wars.

China is conducting military simulations of potential conflicts in regions such as Taiwan and the South China Sea. However, they require the participation of human commanders to make decisions on the spot in response to unexpected events.

The number of senior commanders and their availability are limited, which makes it impossible to conduct a large number of simulations. In such a case, the AI commander replaces people, within the laboratory he can make decisions without human intervention.

"The initial setup of the AI commander reflected an experienced and brilliant strategist with strong mental abilities, a balanced and persistent character, able to calmly analyze and evaluate situations. He is devoid of emotional or impulsive decisions and is quick to make them," the researchers noted.

The AI commander relies on empirical knowledge when making decisions, looking for satisfactory options based on similar situations in memory. To give AI humanity, scientists have imposed limits on the size of its knowledge base, making the commander forgetful.

Recall that in January 2023, an autonomous marine reconnaissance vessel with artificial intelligence was launched in China.

In March 2024, the United States called for a global consensus on AI.
