The Malaysian Internal Revenue Authority (IRB) has conducted an Ops Token operation to combat the leakage of tax revenues from cryptocurrency trading. This is reported by the local media.
38 members of the Royal Police and the country's Cyber Security Service participated in raids on 10 different locations in the Klang Valley. They came to the attention of companies that did not report to the IRB on activities related to digital assets.
During the raids, authorities found data on cryptocurrency trading on mobile devices and computers indicating "a significant drain on tax revenues." The IRB will have to analyze the information received to determine the exact amount of damage.
The head of the Datuk Department, Abu Tariq Jamaluddin, warned crypto traders about the need to file declarations in order to avoid sanctions.
Recall that in April 2024, the Swedish tax authority revealed underpayment by mining companies in the amount of almost 1 billion kronor (more than $ 90 million at that time).
