Optimism has added support for L3 solutions to the OP Stack

Third-tier (L3) networks can now join the Superchain ecosystem, relying on the OP Stack technology stack, the Optimism team reported.

🔴 Welcoming L3s to the Superchain!

L3s can join the Superchain by building on the OP Stack and sharing revenue with the Collective.

Benefits include:

Superchain implements the concept of horizontal scalability through the construction of a "blockchain network". The latter use unified solutions such as bridges, decentralized management, communication layers and much more based on OP Stack.

The concept involves combining the OP Mainnet with other chains within the Superchain into a single network.

The developers noted that in order to enable the connection of L3 networks, along with L2 protocols, two key functions had to be additionally implemented:

custom gas tokens;Plasma Mode — switching to an off-chain data availability provider (DA).

The Optimism team stated that the L3 projects connected to the Superchain will be able to share revenue with the DAO Optimism Collective, participate in management and receive a number of benefits, including:

access to a wide network of developers;the right to participate in retro financing and airdrops;grant programs and other support initiatives.

Optimism acknowledged that they drew attention to third-level solutions as a "more cost-effective way to build a Superchain ecosystem," noting a trend in Base. The L3 segment of blockchain-based networks from Coinbase is rapidly expanding, the team noted.

"We see L3 as an important part of making Superchain accessible to teams with different needs and resources. Supporting key features that enable developers to deploy their solutions is an important part of our roadmap," the statement said.

Recall that in April, cLabs, the company behind the L1-blockchain Celo, announced that it had chosen OP Stack to migrate to the second level of Ethereum.

Sam Altman's Worldcoin project has announced the launch of its own World Chain L2 network based on the software stack from Optimism.
