Aurora is an Ethereum Virtual Machine developed by the team behind NEAR Protocol, offering a ready-to-use platform that lets developers run their applications on an Ethereum-compatible network. It’s designed for high throughput, scalability, and long-term resilience, while aiming to keep user transaction costs low.
Aurora comprises the Aurora Engine, a high-performance EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine), along with the Aurora Bridge. Together, they enable trustless movement of ETH and ERC20 tokens between Ethereum and Aurora, while maintaining a strong user experience.
Aurora operates as an independent initiative that is self-funded, though it continues to draw on the shared team DNA and the continually improving technology of the NEAR Protocol.
The governance model for Aurora uses a hybrid approach: a Decentralized Autonomous Organization called the AuroraDAO, supported by a traditional entity that will occupy one of several seats in the AuroraDAO.
