Launched in 2016, Kadena is a Layer1 Proof-of-Work blockchain built to deliver strong scalability. It offers the tools and services that help developer teams launch decentralized applications on the Kadena network while taking advantage of the platform’s capabilities.
KDA is Kadena’s native cryptocurrency. Its total supply is 1,000,000,000, which is planned to be mined across 120 years. KDA functions as a utility token, including paying transaction fees on the Kadena public chain. It is also issued to miners that support network security.
Kadena improves scalability by using a distinctive Proof-of-Work approach. The project refers to this as Chainweb. It is built around two layers: a cross-chain layer where transfers are handled through on-chain SPV (Simple Payment Verification) smart contracts, all executed within an application, and a parallel-chain binding step performed at the blockchain’s hashing level. The outcome is a throughput potential that scales linearly, supporting Kadena’s scalability goals.
Another major part of the Kadena ecosystem is Pact, the network’s smart contract language. Pact is designed to be human-readable and includes the ability to automatically detect bugs. It also supports Formal Verification, enabling developers to validate that their contracts work as intended. Developers can reuse code from other applications and tailor it for different requirements.
With this setup, the Kadena network can support a range of applications for different use cases. Examples span the gaming, finance, metaverse, and DeFi sectors.
To help grow its ecosystem, Kadena created the Kadena Eco platform. It provides additional assistance and resources, including grant programs, incubators, and accelerator facilities, intended to help Kadena-based projects launch successfully or continue ongoing development.
KDA can be traded on the CEXs and DEXs listed here. The most widely used venues with the highest liquidity include Binance, OKX, Gate.io, and KuCoin.
