Ordinals is a protocol for producing inscriptions by attaching content to satoshis, the smallest denomination on Bitcoin. Since Bitcoin has 2100 trillion satoshis in total, Ordinals makes it possible to record a large volume of data on the Bitcoin blockchain without introducing a separate token, using a side chain, or changing Bitcoin itself. Inscriptions may carry text, images, audio, video, and more. Because Bitcoin block size is limited, most inscriptions are created as NFTs and tokens that store text and pictures.
