Celestia is developing a modular consensus and data network that makes it simple for anyone to launch their own blockchain with little overhead. Its modular blockchain design is intended to boost the scale and speed of Web3 innovation over the coming decade.
Celestia is the First Modular Blockchain network, letting developers create and deploy their own blockchain with the same ease as deploying a new smart contract.
With Celestia, you can operate a validator node, a bridge node, or a light client to help support the network.
Celestia brings a Data Availability Layer to support efficient scaling and to let L2 Rollups sample the data they require for transactions.
Rollups are a newer kind of blockchain. Their key difference is that they shift part of their workload to a layer 1 such as Celestia. In simple terms, rollups post their transaction data to Celestia, which then orders it and makes it available so rollup users can retrieve it. Rollups also gain some of Celestia’s security.
However, rollups built on Celestia don’t function exactly like other rollups. They can be started conveniently like layer 2s, while also having the sovereignty typically associated with layer 1s. The team refers to these blockchains as sovereign rollups.
