About Edgeware

Edgeware is a smart contract compatible blockchain. It’s built using Substrate and runs on a Nominated Proof-of-Stake consensus model. The network includes a community-operated treasury, a decentralized system for creating proposals, and a full DAO network. Teams can build applications directly on Edgeware using Rust and WebAssembly, or they can bring existing Solidity/EVM smart contracts and deploy them with little to no adjustments.

The project also aims to offer tools that support a more effective governance approach for blockchain platforms. It does this by incorporating the decision-making workflow into the blockchain runtime. For instance, network upgrades and improvements can be proposed, voted on, delegated, and financed through DAOs, economic incentives, and other crypto-based voting mechanisms.

EDG serves as the platform’s native cryptocurrency and has a Total Initial Supply of 5,000,000,000.

What are Edgeware's key features and how does it work?

The Edgeware network is designed to distribute influence and decision power across many smaller groups, instead of relying on a single centralized coordination layer. It lets developers collaborate with existing community groups, start new initiatives, or develop new concepts. Each group may request treasury funding, use multiple management tools, and participate in the wider ecosystem to help improve repudiation scores.

What can EDG be used for?

As noted, the chain is secured using a Nominated Proof-of-Stake mechanism, where staking EDG is required. A capped set of approved validators is selected through governance. The number of active validators can vary based on how many validators want to join and the amount of stake they provide. Validator rewards are unchanged even if staking amounts increase, which is intended to reduce the risk of centralized staking.

EDG also supports additional uses, including:

Participating in Governance, elections, and proposal creationStaking DelegationCovering transaction fees
