GT, which stands for Gatechain Token, serves as the base currency of Gatechain’s public chain and helps power its underlying infrastructure. As Gatechain’s primary network fuel, GT is used to cover network transfer fees. Gatechain also invites GT holders to help maintain network health via PoS equity mining. In addition, Gate.io plans to use GT as part of its eco.
GT is available only through Gate.io. During the initial stage of the POINT launch, Gate.io distributed 300 million GT to users. GT distribution began at UTC 4:00 on April 8th, 2019. There was no ICO and no private sale.
Beyond the DEX it offers, Gatechain addresses two security challenges in a distinctive way: 1) enabling recovery of stolen digital assets, and 2) helping users locate lost private keys.
