The Utility Token of the Moonriver Network
Moonriver is the name of the network’s Kusama rollout, and it also includes its own utility token, Moonriver (MOVR).
Moonriver will use the same supply and overall token-economic behavior as Moonbeam, though the distribution will differ to align with the network’s specific objectives and characteristics. It is intended to function as a “CanaryNet” for Moonbeam, while also operating as a community-driven trial where the community helps choose its path. As part of the process, Moonriver raised a major parachain crowdloan to secure its initial parachain slot on Kusama.
Moonriver follows a 5-phase launch schedule. At present, Moonriver is in Phase 3, with the configurations below:
Runs as a parachain linked to the Kusama relay chain
Maintains an active collator set of 40
Provides two RPC endpoints (hosted by PureStake), allowing users to run full nodes and use their own private RPC endpoints
Through the 5-phase Moonriver launch, the network will be gradually upgraded toward a fully decentralized Proof of Stake setup. For details on each phase’s changes, refer to the Network Launch Status page.
During Phase 1, an initial collator election was conducted to populate the active collator set with participants outside of the Moonbeam team. The size of the active set will be determined through governance, and it will include the highest-staking collators, along with their nominations.
