Multichain positions itself as a “Router” for web3, offering infrastructure for flexible cross-chain interactions. The approach Multichain builds is designed so that nearly all blockchains can communicate with one another. It removes limits seen in Ethereum-like ecosystems (for example, Binance Smart Chain), or Layer 2 setups that depend on Ethereum finality (for example, Polygon). It also covers chains within Parachain networks (for example, Moonbeam in the PolkaDot ecosystem), Bitcoin-style chains (for example, Litecoin), and COSMOS chains (for example, Terra). These environments are either already integrated or are on track to be integrated. By supporting encrypted ECDSA and EdDSA chains, Multichain can function as a broadly applicable interoperability layer.
Some services that connect through the SMPC network include:
Bridge. An asset is deposited into an MPC smart contract on the originating chain, and a matching wrapped asset is then created on the destination chain. The opposite step, known as Redeeming, burns the wrapped asset and releases the underlying asset from the smart contract back to the chain it first came from. Because of this, a bridge can only work between two blockchainsRouter. On June 4th 2021, Multichain rolled out its Multichain router V3 beta mainnet. The Router features:- It enables transfers of assets between any two or more chains.
- It can interact with existing blockchain assets using liquidity pools for those assets.
- It can also operate with Bridged assets smart contracts, with Multichain handling the minting of assets on chains. This expands the idea of bridging by not requiring the asset to come back to its origin chain before it can be sent elsewhere. It can be a cost-efficient option for users, particularly when the asset began on Ethereum.
- The Router supports both native and Bridged assets. This makes it possible to include assets that may have been created via a third-party bridge (though which bridge was used would need clarification).
Crosschain Contract Calls. Using the anyCall smart contract function, projects can perform cross-chain contract calls while relying on the security of Multichain's MPC networkCrosschain NFT Bridges and Router. Multichain provides an NFT bridge (covering ERC721 and ERC1155). It also provides a Router for NFTs.MULTI is the governance token that lets MULTI token holders vote and take part in governing the Community and Ecosystem.
