Olympus is a blockchain protocol designed to build a reserve-currency style system for the expanding Web3 ecosystem. By doing so, it aims to support a more neutral form of currency and motivate more people to participate in DeFi and web3. The initiative is managed by OlympusDAO, which plays a role in both decision-making and development planning.
To pursue this vision, Olympus uses its native cryptocurrency, OHM. Specifically, OHM is intended to help protect purchasing power, offer strong liquidity, act as a general unit of account, and function as a reserve asset with trusted backing. OHM is community-owned, censorship-resistant, asset-backed, and positioned for deep liquidity.
OlympusDAO sits at the center of the platform. It consists of a community network collectively responsible for choosing and executing protocol updates and new developments. Community members submit proposals to a dedicated forum, where they can be reviewed before reaching a vote. Every proposal, regardless of how significant it may seem, must be decided by the Olympus community.
The DAO also includes the Olympus Governance Council (OGC), made up of experienced community members who handle off-chain operations.
The protocol operates through two primary roles: Stakers and Bonders. Stakers lock OHM into the protocol to help secure the Olympus ecosystem and support price stability. In return, Stakers receive rewards in the form of tokens plus governance rights.
Participating in Olympus bonds grants users discounted trading fees. Bonding is a financial mechanism that enables Olympus to obtain assets in exchange for governance tokens. When bonds are sold, it supports increased liquidity and adds additional reserve assets to the Olympus treasury.
OHM can be traded on the CEXs and DEXs shown here. Among the most widely used platforms with the highest liquidity are SushiSwap and Balancer. The OHM price can change based on which exchange you use and broader market conditions. For current and historical OHM market pricing, check the price charts on this page.
