About Osmosis

Osmosis operates as a decentralized AMM based on the Cosmos network. One of its overarching goals is to expand the overall use of AMMs beyond simply facilitating token swaps. In more detail, as well as being an AMM DEX itself, Osmosis further provides tools that allow developers to build their own customized AMMs with liquidity pools. The platform also facilitates cross-chain transactions with the use of Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) technology.

OSMO is the platform’s native cryptocurrency. It has a maximum supply of 1,000,000,000.

What are Osmosis’ key features and how does it work?

The Osmosis DEX allows users to swap, trade, and buy tokens. It also allows users to select a slippage tolerance. This means that transactions will revert if the price changes more than the selected percent in an unfavorable direction.

A core feature of Osmosis is that it allows users to create liquidity pools on the Osmosis DEX with a set of unique parameters. As an example, this could include bonding curves, dynamic swap fee price adjustments, and creating multi-weighted asset pools. By providing these functionalities, Osmosis hopes to be able to advance the use cases of AMMs and tailor them toward more advanced market participants.

Osmosis also offers AMM as a serviced infrastructure. This allows developers to adapt pre-made AMM structures and tailor the technology to suit their needs.

The OSMO token is used for governance of the Osmosis platform. Staked holders of OSMO are entitled to take part in the decision-making process of the protocol. This includes tokens listed, platform upgrades, and more.

What can Osmosis be used for?

Osmosis allows developers to create AMMs that suit a variety of use cases. This includes token sales, interchain staking, options market, as well as other uses based within the Cosmos ecosystem.

Some notable examples of applications built using Osmosis technology include:

Slingshot - a trading platform Restake.app - an application that allows validators to auto compound other users’ Osmosis staking rewardsAxelar - a permissionless network that allows developers to create cross-chain applications
