Qtum is an open-source blockchain network, commonly referred to as the Qtum Chain. It supports Ethereum’s EVM and relies on a Proof-of-Stake consensus model. Key themes for the platform include decentralization, trustlessness, permissionless participation, and community-driven direction.
QTUM serves as the native cryptocurrency for the ecosystem, with a total supply of 107,822,406 QTUM.
The network enables developers to create and deploy decentralized applications. Major features include:
A blockchain architecture designed to be easy to upgrade, allowing changes to be implemented without requiring hard forks. A dedicated consensus mechanism called Mutualized Proof-of-Stake (MPos). It aims to reduce certain attack risks by distributing block production rewards among nodes and by delaying payment.Qtum also offers a wallet ecosystem. Through these wallets, users can hold their QTUM as well as QRC20 standard tokens. Available wallet options span desktop, mobile, web, and hardware, with different levels of support and functionality to match different trading needs. Users can also take part in staking to earn rewards and/or receive governance rights based on staking QTUM.
The Qtum Chain runs a governance framework made up of two main parts: on-chain governance using DGP and off-chain governance via the Qtum Chain Foundation. With on-chain governance, not only token holders but also developers, community members, miners, and other network participants can help shape governance decisions. These participants can submit and vote on on-chain proposals. Governance happens through smart contracts, and proposal categories focus on protocol upgrades-such as updates to network parameters and changes to management and governance roles.
Meanwhile, off-chain governance focuses on protecting raised funds, supporting the longevity of community initiatives, and improving the overall performance of the management process.
