About Rocket Pool

Rocket Pool is a decentralized Ethereum Staking platform. It was created in 2016 as a Proof-of-Stake Protocol that belongs to the community, is trustless, and supports staking with Ethereum 2.0. The system is designed for two groups: users who want tokenized staking through rETH, and users looking for a stronger ROI by staking ETH and running a node. It also aims to lower the hurdles to operating Ethereum nodes-such as bringing down the 32 ETH needed for solo staking and easing the technical difficulties of node operation. As a result, the protocol enables nearly any crypto participant to join ETH staking.

The RPL token acts as the foundation of the protocol and is used across multiple core functions in the Rocket Pool ecosystem.

What are Rocket Pool’s key features and how does it work?

To participate on the platform, users stake ETH. Staking can be started with as little as 0.01 ETH. In return, participants receive an equivalent amount of rETH. As staking continues, rewards begin accruing automatically. The reward calculation depends on both the user’s total stake and the Rocket Pool protocol’s overall performance. Participants can also put their collateral to work, enabling access to DeFi opportunities that are available to ETH holders.

What can RPL be used for?

RPL is essential for the protocol’s operation. Key roles include:

Node Operators: When depositing ETH, Node Operators must put up a specified amount of RPL as collateral in situations involving malicious conduct or penalties. Node Operators receive rewards paid out in RPL.Inside the Oracle Node DAO: The Oracle Node DAO includes oracle nodes that work similarly to standard nodes, but with added duties. These duties include sending reports on validator balances from the beacon chain. They are paid in RPL for the extra responsibilities, and they also need to post an additional RPL bond to access the added benefits.Protocol DAO Governance and Treasury: RPL holders can vote on and submit proposals for the DAO.
