StormX combines blockchain infrastructure with conventional cashback programs. In practice, it enables shoppers to receive crypto rewards for purchases. The project was launched in 2014 and later ran a crowd sale in 2017. StormX offers both an app and a Chrome extension to handle the cashback workflow. To use the available services, users simply need to hold STMX tokens in their wallets.
STMX serves as the utility token for the StormX ecosystem. It is an ERC-20 compliant token with a total supply of 10 billion. The token was previously labeled STORM, but in 2020 it changed its ticker to STMX.
The core function of StormX is delivering Crypto Cash Back. At present, shoppers can earn rewards from more than 1,000 stores by buying online. The selection includes Samsung, Nike, eBay, and additional retailers. To access the program, users need to install the Chrome extension or use the StormX application for Android or iOS. StormX also uses six membership tiers, where the membership level is determined by how much STMX a user holds-more STMX generally means a higher tier. For instance, Purple is the entry tier and only requires creating an account. Diamond is the top tier and requires 6,200,000 STMX to unlock. Higher tiers provide both a larger cashback reward multiplier and faster reward payouts. Purple provides 1x cashback rewards, while Diamond provides 3.5x cashback bonus rewards and reduces reward time payout by 75%. With this setup, users can earn rewards ranging from 0.5% to 85%, depending on their membership tier and the specific store they shop with.
StormX additionally supports staking. By staking STMX for a period of time, users can earn additional STMX. These rewards are deposited directly into a user’s Storm account. The StormX platform can fund these rewards by earning money itself through brand discounts it receives and then shares with users. When brands provide discounts to StormX, those discounts are passed to shoppers, and transaction fees are sent to StormX.
StormX lets users observe other shoppers and learn strategies through its services. It offers a leaderboard so users can compare approaches and test different tactics to increase returns. The leaderboard also includes prizes for top shoppers and players, adding extra motivation to participate in the platform.
