About Rocket Pool ETH

Rocket Pool ETH (rETH) is a core token in the Rock Pool decentralized Ethereum Staking Protocol. The project began in 2016 as a Proof-of-Stake protocol that is community-owned, trustless, and compatible with Ethereum 2.0 staking. It targets two groups: people who participate in tokenized staking with rETH, and those aiming for improved ROI by staking ETH and running a node. The protocol is designed to lower the barriers to operating Ethereum nodes-such as bringing down the 32 ETH needed for solo staking and reducing the operational and technical difficulties of node management-so that nearly any crypto user can join ETH staking. rETH is issued to Rocket Pool Protocol stakers and reflects the amount of ETH staked by users on the platform.

What are Rocket Pool ETH’s key features and how does it work?

To access the platform, users stake ETH. They can start with as little as 0.01 ETH, and in return receive an equivalent amount of rETH. rETH is pegged 1:1 to the value of ETH. The rETH amount distributed to stakers is determined by this ratio: rETH:ETH ratio = (total ETH staked + Beacon Chain rewards) / (total ETH staked). Staking rewards begin accruing once rETH is held, and the size of rewards depends on each user’s staked amount and the overall performance of the Rocket Pool protocol.

On the Rocket Pool platform, rETH can be exchanged for ETH along with the value of any rewards earned. It’s also important to note that holding rETH in a compatible wallet effectively grants staker status, with rewards accruing automatically. Users may also make use of their collateral to support DeFi strategies open to ETH holders.

Because of the protocol’s design, the value of rETH is expected to rise over time. This is supported by protection from node slashing and downtime through Rocket Pool’s insurance mechanisms. For instance, node operators are required to stake RPL on their nodes, where it acts as collateral for potential penalties-helping encourage responsible operation.

What can rETH be used for?

The rETH token has the following use cases:

Holding it and later redeeming it back to the Rocket Pool;Using it within DeFi applications;Trading, lending, and posting it as collateral;Using it in the same manner as any other ERC20 token.

Where can you buy rETH?
